After 18 years in the Royal Air Force, including tours in the first Gulf War and the Falklands, Dougie Brimson’s writing career took off with the overnight success of Everywhere We Go, based on his experiences as a football casual, which remains a seminal work on the culture of football hooliganism. His first move into films was the critically acclaimed short It’s A Casual Life, followed two years later by the award winning Green Street, starring Elijah Wood, for Odd Lot Entertainment/Lionsgate. His eagerly awaited second feature Top Dog, which he adapted from his own best selling novel of the same name, directed by Martin Kemp for Richwater Films/Universal Pictures, won Best Feature at the British Independent Film Festival in London on May 10.
Dougie’s next feature, the urban revenge thriller We Still Kill The Old Way, was released in 2015 directed by Sacha Bennett for Richwater Films/Anchor Bay Entertainment. Other films in development include adaptations of his comedy novels Wings of a Sparrow and Billy’s Log; Boots On the Ground, an emotional rollercoaster about a British soldier injured in Afghanistan; and Three Greens a modern day reworking of the classic movie The League of Gentlemen.
His 15 novels to date have sold in excess of half a million copies in print and many more as downloads. The Crew topped the Amazon sports book download charts for over two years following its 2011 publication in eBook format, and the comedy Wings of a Sparrow which was initially an electronic release, was recently issued in print. The highly anticipated sequel to his best-selling comedy, Billy’s Log, will be published later this year.
He is widely acknowledged as one of soccer’s most vocal anti-violence and anti-racism campaigners and has acted as an advisor to both the British Government and the European Commission. He is currently liaising with the Russian Football Federation regarding an anti-racism initiative ahead of the 2018 World Cup.
He has written extensively for various newspapers including The Times, The Guardian, The Sun, and The New York Times. He has been interviewed on Sky News, BBC News, BBC News 24, NBC, ABC, CBN, ESPN, TalkSport and Radio 5. He also produced and presented two motorsport series for Granada Television and produced a motorsport series for Channel 5 covering BrisCA Formula One Stock Car racing.
