Kevin MEARS

Kevin wrote and produced the multi-award winning short, Eva’s Legacy, which premiered at the London Short Film Festival in January 2015. It went on to screen at 15 festivals around the world, picking up a Platinum Remi for Original Dramatic Short at Houston’s Worldfest, Best Film and Best Cinematography at the Rob Knox Film Festival, and Best Visual at Limelight Film Festival in London.

He is currently adapting Gillian Philip’s fantasy adventure, Mysteries of Ravenstorm Island: The Lost Children for Working Partners, and developing a drama about Inspector Walter Dew’s pursuit of Dr Crippen across the Atlantic. He’s also working on an exciting new tv sitcom series.

The success of Eva’s Legacy led to him being commissioned to write a comedy short for Sanction Films, Stocking Up for Christmas, which went into production in October 2015, due out in 2016. He’s also got two more short films, Next in Line and The Announcement, going into production in 2016, both with a view to developing them into feature length films.

He was shortlisted for the BBC Writer’s Prize in 2013 for a radio sitcom script called Guides on Tour, reaching the final four out of over 2,000 entries. He’s on the BBC Writersroom’s list of writers under development and in 2010 he got his first production credit, writing additional material for the BBC Radio 4 Extra topical sketch show, Newsjack.

Kevin always knew he wanted to be a writer, having developed a love of stories and films at an early age. It wasn’t until seeing Christopher Nolan’s Memento and Shane Meadows’ This Is England in 2006 that he decided to try his hand at writing his own scripts.

He has received praise for his ability to create strong, snappy, character driven storylines, with a flair for sharp, engaging dialogue, laced with humour and intrigue.

Kevin is married with a young daughter and lives in Essex.
