ALEXIS Bicât – Writer/Director

Award-winning writer/director Alexis Bicât has written four features and one TV show, notably a groundbreaking heist movie Bench starring Nick Moran which was mentored by legendary producers Barry Hanson (The Long Good Friday) and Michael Wearing (Edge of Darkness). Other features include It’s Only Rock ‘N’ Roll , a seat of your pants action adventure movie now being pitched, Driven and Origin. He has written, directed or produced short film dramas for major UK and US broadcasters, including: BBC, Sky, Channel 5, PBS, TV Valencia, Fox Children’s Channel, Cinefil and more.

Now living between London, Los Angeles and the Cotswolds, he has resumed his directing career with Romchyk (2025), an acclaimed short film highlighting the cost of the war in Ukraine. The film was watched by Pope Francis at The Vatican and won the Oscar qualifying San Jose International Film Festival, the audience award for best emerging filmmaker at Cambria Film Festival, Sunderland Shorts Film Festival, Mansfield Town Film Festival, as well as winning the Best Director award at Mansfield Town Film Festival. 

He’s adapted Mike Quin’s book The Big Strike into a five-part mini-series called Embarcadero and was commissioned by the MD of JP Morgan to write a documentary treatment based on the book The Oath: A Surgeon Under Fire by Khassan Baiev   

In 2003 he attended the inaugural Berlinale Talent Campus hosted by Spike Lee, Wym Wenders, Dennis Hooper and Stephen Frears. He also spent time in Los Angeles honing his craft, working on a raft of productions including major action movies starring among others Channing Tatum in  Magic Mike and Sienna Miller in Factory Girl

The son of writer/director Tony Bicât he was Born in London and is of Chechen, Russian, French, English and Irish descent.  He’s a member of BAFTA Connect, Film London’s Equal Access Network and Directors UK, he holds a degree in English Literature and Film from London Metropolitan University, as well as a Masters in Psychology from the University of Highlands and Islands.

He grew up in the Cotswolds and his passion for the performing arts began early, which led to professional parts in Christmas Present (1985), and Inappropriate Behaviour (1987). He moved to London to start his film career and set up Parent Films as a teenager. The nascent outfit went on to deliver a number of nationwide theatrically released short films, including the multi-award winning To Catch a Crow and Noise Control starring Nick Moran both produced and directed by Alexis..

In 1996/7 he organised and directed the Raindance Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the UK and co-founded the third largest film market in the world (the pre-MIFED London Screenings).
