Matthew SLATER – Film & TV composer
Matthew Slater’s most recent work is series 5 of ITV’s Grace, starring John Simm which airs from April 6 as four feature length films. He has scored all 5 seasons of the ITV Brighton based police Produced by Tall Story Pictures/Second Act Productions and based on the hugely successful Peter James novels, the series is also screened in the US, Canada, Australia, Germany France and more.
Earlier he wrote the music for the astounding BBC One documentary, Rose Ayling-Ellis : Signs For Change, where she shares her personal journey into the deaf experience and asks whether attitudes are finally changing.
Matthew scored the ITV/PBS Masterpiece 4-parter Tom Jones based on Henry Fielding’s classic novel ‘The History of Tom Jones’, produced by Benjamin Greenacre and directed by Georgia Harris for Mammoth Screen.
Matthew’s association with Mammoth Screen goes back many years when he started assisting on Morse, and this led to him being asked by Mammoth Screen to score the Endeavour series which ran for nine seasons. Screened in 147 countries and in 80 languages, the series has brought Matthew’s name to the forefront of British composers.
He has produced, rearranged and released an album of the Endeavour music with the 88 strong London Metropolitan Orchestra under his baton. The album has received much praise, and was featured as Classic FM’s Drive Discovery Album of the Week. Later this year, Matthew will be conducting the LMO in a London concert followed by regional tour dates in 2024/5.
His films include the much praised and award winning/nominated short – 4 wins and 8 nominations – Forget Me Not directed by Nicholas Goulden and produced by Angela Godfrey for Keen City Productions; the award-winning Deleted directed by Stephen Pierre Mitchell for Elicit Pictures; and Reshaped also directed by Stephen Pierre Mitchell and produced by Nicole Selwyn for Cut From Above Productions.
Matthew started his professional career scoring documentaries series for Brown Bob Productions across a wide range of subjects from crime to medicine, including Moment of Proof, Emergency: First Time Medics and Great Rail Restorations.
