Sylvia STRAND & Jonathan GREGORY
2018 started with a bang for Sylvia and Jonathan. They started scoring an international feature-length epic docudrama Fearless – The egg that saved a million lives starring Kristofer Hivju (Game of Thrones, Beck, Fast and Furious Franchise) and Vebjørn Enger (The Orheim Company, The Ash Lad; In the hall of the Mountain King and Kjære Pappa) due to be broadcast autumn 2019. They are also are scoring a Norwegian feature-length documentary The Diaries due for completion 2019.
In 2017 they were invited to score their first feature, a Norwegian family film The Treasure at Alnes and they are due to start on the music later in 2018.
‘Kari-Anne påRøst’, the 6 part series they scored in 2017, has been recommissioned, and the 2017 Christmas special had over 40% of the TV audience in Norway.
Nominated for ‘best original score’ at Norway’s TV awards Gullruten 2016 for the film Bit-Ballerina Bulldog, directed by Gry Molvær Hivju, and written by Kristofer Hivju (Tormund Giantsbane in Game of Thrones), Sylvia and Jonathan are best known for scoring seven seasons of Norway’s multi-award-winning tv series Der Ingen Skulle Tru At Noken Kune Bu 2007 – 2014, directed by Oddgeir Bruaset. A lot of their music features Sylvia\’s stunningly beautiful, powerful yet ethereal voice, either within the score or as opening or closing credit songs.
Their success led them to score Fjelldronninga (The Mountain Queen) an intimate portrait of Queen Sonja of Norway, again directed by Oddgeir Bruaset. Working closely with cinematographer, Tor Sivertstøl since 2007 on several documentary shorts, music videos and corporate films Sylvia and Jonathan went on to score his first feature-length documentary, the award-winning Lysleite (Hunting the Light). The soundtrack, released on their own label, outsold Frozen and the Hobbit in its first week of release, reaching number 1 in the Norwegian soundtrack charts in 2014. To date, their records, have sold nearly half a million worldwide.
Both started the music careers in rock bands at thirteen. Sylvia took the more traditional route studying arranging, composing and musicology at the University of Oslo while continuing to front several Jazz and Rock bands. In 1998 she moved to The Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama to study classical singing, finishing her Master\’s degree with distinction in performance in 2003.
Jonathan is a professional music producer and drummer. He started out touring with bands but quickly realised that his passion was in the studio producing records. This led him to move to Newcastle to study Music Production at The John Marley Center for Performing Arts graduating with distinction.
